Sixteen candles expanded soundtrack. On Windows it returns the RS232 COM ports Com1, Com2 etc. I can stick them in a list box and allow the user to choose one. On Mac it also returns all USB communications devices some of which are USB-to-RS232 adapters. Anyone know of a way to get just the RS232 ports? A Visual Basic Programmer's Review of REALbasic 2008 Release 1. Posted by Martin Liss on. Out of the blue, I was given the chance to review Real Software's REALbasic 2008 Release 1 and the wall fell away, revealing a programming environment in which I feel comfortable and very much at home. Now as for my review. (Assuming any RS232 ports are actually installed). 2nd Question Also to do with serial ports. When using a USB-to-RS232 adapter the device name - returned by the code in my 1st question - would usually be something like usbserial If you then insert another it gets a name such as usbserial4 obviously some numbering going on but why 4 and not 1 or 2. If you remove usbserial4 and re-insert it gets a new number like usbserial6 or usbserial9. What happened to 5 or 7 or 8 and why didn't it get the number it had previously. Basically there's no regular numbering system and the same device if removed and re-inserted isn't allocated the same name. The only constant is that the first device always stays as usbserial without a number but allowing the user to use and configure more than one usbserial device would need him to re-select the serial ports every time he used the application. Anyone else done anything with serial ports on mac? Any other way to name/number them consistently? This numbering is done by MacOS so it's not an RB problem but because I'm using RB I assume we're on-topic and maybe RB has some feature specific to the RB Serial control which helps with naming of Mac ports?
